Geometry of Spatial Forms by Peter C. Gasson

Ellis Horwood, Ltd. | 1983 | ISBN: 0853126208, 0470200111, 047020009X, 0853126526 | 561 pages | Djvu | 6,5 MB

This comprehensive text contains all important concepts

and formulae of applicable geometry necessary for a

complete understanding of the subject. Now available for

the first time in a single volume, it meets the present and

future needs of architects, engineers and designers. Clearly

and elegantly written, profusely illustrated with line dia-

grams, it may be read either with complete continuity or

piecemeal, one section at a time. A great many mathe-

matical concepts are introduced in a form which is easy to

follow for readers new to this subject. The author will

inspire and encourage those who have need to sharpen their

geometrical wits, develop their powers of visualisation, and

improve t"eir spatial comprehension.

The author fosters a better overall understanding of the

complete geometrical syllabus, and promotes its widespread

application. The book has become a standard undergraduate

treatment of the relevant geometrical aspects, and intro-

duces the reader to the broader reaches of computational

geometry for design and man.ufacture.

The remarkable success of this course text in its first year

of publication has encouraged the author and the publishers

to issue a reprint with revisions. It now possesses the added

bounty of some 200 individual problem exercises, both to

reinforce its didactic qualities and to and establish

student comprehension. The author has provided answers

to most problems, and hints (where appropriate), all

cross-referenced to the appropriate section of the text.

Readership: Engineers, designers and architects in civil, mechanical,

production and structural engineering. Aeronautical, automobile,

architectural and marine engineers. Programmers, software writers,

and all with an interest in computer-aided engineering. Lecturers

and undergraduate students of mathematics and related fields.

Buckling and Postbuckling Structures: Experimental, Analytical and Numerical Studies (Computational and Experiemental Methods in Structures): B. G. Falzon, Aliabadi. M. H.

Buckling and Postbuckling Structures: Experimental, Analytical and Numerical Studies (Computational and Experiemental Methods in Structures): B. G. Falzon, Aliabadi. M. H.

This book provides an in-depth treatment of the study of the stability of engineering structures. Contributions from internationally recognized leaders in the field ensure a wide coverage of engineering disciplines in which structural stability is of importance, in particular the analytical and numerical modelling of structural stability applied to aeronautical, civil, marine and offshore structures.
The results from a number of comprehensive experimental programs are also presented, thus enhancing our understanding of stability phenomena as well as validating the analytical and computational solution schemes presented. A variety of structural materials are investigated with special emphasis on carbon-fibre composites, which are being increasingly utilized in weight-critical structures. Instabilities at the meso- and micro-scales are also discussed. This book will be particularly relevant to professional engineers, graduate students and researchers interested in structural stability.

Contents: Experimental Studies of Stiffened Composite Panels under Axial Compression, Torsion and Combined Loading (H Abramovich); Buckling and Postbuckling s on Stiffened Composite Panels and Shells (C Bisagni); Mode-Jumping in Postbuckling Stiffened Composite Panels (B G Falzon); The Development of Shell Buckling Design Criteria Based on Initial Imperfection Signatures (M W Hilburger); Stability Design of Stiffened Composite Panels Simulation and Experimental Validation (A Kling); Anisotropic Elastic Tailoring in Laminated Composite Plates and Shells (P M Weaver); Optimization of Stiffened Panels using Finite Strip Models (R Butler & W Liu); Stability of Tubes and Pipelines (H A Rasheed & S A Karamanos); Imperfection-Sensitive Buckling and Postbuckling of Spherical Shell Caps (S Yamada & M Uchiyama); Nonlinear Buckling in Sandwich Struts: Mode Interaction and Localization (M A Wadee); The Boundary Element Method for Buckling and Postbuckling Analysis of Plates and Shells (M H Aliabadi & P M Baiz); Progressive Failure in Compressively Loaded Composite Laminated Panels: Analytical, Experimental and Numerical Studies (S Basu et al.); Micro- and Meso-Instabilities in Structured Materials and Sandwich Structures (T Daxner et al.).

Added Masses of Ship Structures by Alexandr I. Korotkin

Added Masses of Ship Structures by  Alexandr I. Korotkin

Springer | 2008-12-15 | ISBN: 1402094310 | 404 pages | PDF | 8,95 MB

Knowledge of added body masses that interact with fluid is necessary in various research and applied tasks of hydro- and aeromechanics: steady and unsteady motion of rigid bodies, total vibration of bodies in fluid, local vibration of the external plating of different structures.
This reference book contains data on added masses of ships and various ship and marine engineering structures. Also theoretical and experimental methods for determining added masses of these objects are described. A major part of the material is presented in the format of final formulas and plots which are ready for practical use.

The book summarises all key material that was published in both Russian and English-language literature.

This volume is intended for technical specialists of shipbuilding and related industries.

The author is one of the leading Russian experts in the area of ship hydrodynamics.

Thermoset Nanocomposites for Engineering Applications by Rumiana Kotsilkova

Thermoset Nanocomposites for Engineering Applications by Rumiana Kotsilkova
Thermoset nanocomposites are complex hybrid materials which integrate nanoparticles with polymers to produce a novel nanostructure, with extraordinary properties. Organic/inorganic hybrids are some of the most challenging nanostructures investigated to date. What differentiates nanocomposite materials from classical composites is the degree of control of fabrication, processing and performance, that can be achieved down to a very small scale. Thermoset polymer nanocomposites have received less interest in their scientific development and engineering applications than thermoplastic nanocomposites. However, some of these materials may be relatively easy to bring into production. The understanding of characteristics of the interphase region and the estimation of technology-structure-property relationships are the current research frontier in nanocomposite materials. This book summarises the experimental results of work on thermoset nanocomposites obtained from the collaboration of three research groups from Bulgaria, Greece and Italy, and analyses some of results reported in the literature.
The engineering resin nanocomposites are restricted to the most commonly used thermosets, such as epoxy resins, unsaturated polyesters, acrylic resins, and so on. Various nanoparticles have been found to be useful for nanocomposite preparation with thermosetting polymers, along with smectite clay, diamond, graphite, alumina and ferroxides. Thermoset nanocomposites represent a new technology solution. These new formulations benefit from improved dimensional/thermal stability, flame retardancy and chemical resistance; and have potential applications in marine, industrial and construction markets. This book helps to answer questions related to the design of nanocomposites by controlling the processing technology and structure. The book is addressed not only to researchers and engineers who actively work in the broad field of nanocomposite technology, but also to newcomers and students who have just started investigations in this multidisciplinary field of material science.
